The 2004 Indonesia tsunami occurred on 26 Dec. 2004 at 11h28m53s (Mauritius Time) as the result of an earthquake of magnitude between 9.1 and 9.3 at a depth of 30km off the coast of Aceh, Indonesia. It affected all countries of the Indian Ocean. There were very minor inundation in Mauritius while Rodrigues was more affected.

An intensive sensitisation programme was organised in more than 50 primary and secondary schools in Mauritius. ADD took the initiative to organise sensitisation at secondary school in Rodrigues. Presentations were also made to the general public in 15 Social Community Centres. In Rodrigues, 6 primary and 4 secondary schools were covered. About 2000 people have been sensitized. Materials and products prepared include a cartoon strip “M. Conntou and Ti Malin”, an A2 poster, a sticker and a CD. The activities were organised with financial support of the Mauritius Meteorological Services in partnership with Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE). ADD developed posters, lectures, and stickers. MIE assisted with the sensitisation and the preparation of a flyer.
